Our Vision

To help promote the growth of high-tech businesses, generates job growth and economic development at the local, regional and national levels, and foster the educational mission of the University.

History

The Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization (OTTC) at CSUSB was developed through a partnership with the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT) in San Diego, CA. The success of CCAT in San Diego generated support and funding for a similar effort at CSUSB, where OTTC acts as the management and operations office for CCAT.

The CCAT program, supported by Congress and funded through the Office of Naval Research, is a public-private collaborative partnership between academia, industry, and government. Partners include San Diego State University (SDSU) Research Foundation and Entrepreneurial Management Center, the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Jacobs School of Engineering, the von Liebig Center for Entrepreneurism, CONNECT, and the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific. The consortium-style CCAT intends to bridge the gap that exists between the generators of technology, the Department of Defense and the commercial marketplace.

OTTC has partnered with Active Capital, a non-profit firm that is the only Web site for putting together angel and venture capital investors with small businesses approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). OTTC also works closely with CSUSB's Inland Enpire Center for Entrepreneurship, the #4-rated entrepreneurial program in the U.S. according to Entrepreneur magazine and The Princeton Review.

CCAT-San Bernardino and CCAT-San Diego are funded through contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Office of Naval Research (ONR). In return, both programs assist the DOD in moving technological innovations from the military to the public and in finding and commercializing new technologies in such areas as homeland defense and security, environmental restoration and other specific technology requirements identified by the military. CCAT-San Bernardino has, as one of its goals, to promote the economic development of the Inland Empire region. Both CCAT programs promote academic opportunity and excellence of their respective regional institutions by working with students and faculty to implement the program's goals.

As a member of the Congressional Appropriations Committee, the Hon. Jerry Lewis has been particularly supportive of these efforts and deserves much credit for the creation of OTTC at CSUSB. Both the Congressman and the University see technology transfer and commercialization as key to economic growth in the Inland Empire. By facilitating expansion of the region's high-tech business sector, OTTC will help create new jobs and generate wealth.
